Branches Director - Mike Conlon

Society activities

Mike was successful in achieving full membership of the Emergency Planning Society in 2008 and then felt it was time to take an active role at branch level.  He has been an active member of the London Branch executive and was actively involved as part of the team which has delivered successful events such as the ‘Four Seasons Event’ last year and on occasion represented the branch at Council meetings.

As Director of Branches, Mike's responsibilities are:

·        To act as a conduit between the board and the branches.

·        Highlight and disseminate best practice to the branches

·        Identify  areas for improvement

·        Work with the branch chairs and executives to develop existing branches

·        Represent the branches at board level

·        Develop new branch opportunities.

Mike's priorities for the next 12 months are:

·        Attend branches OGM/AGM subject to invite.

·        Monthly teleconferences with branch chairs.

·        Quarterly meetings with branch chairs.

·        Supporting branches in their business plans.

·        Working with the board to develop a branch handbook.

·        Supporting branches in growing the membership.

·        Developing new branches where appropriate.

·        Ensuring best value from branches for the membership.

Personal profile

Mike is the Head of Emergency Planning at NHS Sutton and Merton; in his current role he is responsible for Business Continuity, Emergency Planning and Pandemic Flu Response.  He has been an active member of the London Branch Executive for the last two years.  He has a wide experience in emergency planning and response across health, voluntary and Local Authority Sectors.  Mike qualified as a nurse in 2001 and still practices on a regular basis.
