Business Continuity Awareness Week 2010
The Business Continuity Awareness Week 2010 takes place next week commencing on Monday 22 March to provide an educational event for people who would like to learn more about business continuity management and how they might benefit from its application.
“Solving the business resilience puzzle”
The purpose of BCAW is to provide an educational event for people who would like to learn more about business continuity management and how they might benefit from its application. The Business Continuity Institute has by tradition set the dates for each year’s event and we are already in the sixth year. Although its roots lie in the UK, BCM now has significant international traction and in order to meet the growing international interest in BCM this year’s event features an extensive web-based event programme and resources all accessed through the global website www.businesscontinuityawarenessweek.org
In 2009 the focus was developing relationships with the human resources profession, developing practical advice for small business and briefing politicians on the benefit of wider adoption of BCM in dealing with the impact of civil contingencies.
In 2010 the focus is on developing a dialogue with the insurance industry; publishing practical advice for supply chain management professionals around how they can gain greater resilience in their supply chains, and setting out the tangible benefits of BCM programmes in a signature research project entitled “the Business Case for BCM”.
The webinar programme features subjects ranging from protecting the organisation against supplier failure to cyber security, crisis management, business continuity for small businesses, standards, the World Cup 2010, major global risks and perspectives from Asia and Africa. Leading names such as Zurich, eBay, BT, BSI and the World Economic Forum are among the many contributors.
Other features of the week include a range of free downloads including the BCI’s supply chain resilience survey from 2009, a discussion paper on the future of risk management, and a guide on working with human resource professionals in BCM programmes. In addition, a number of new case studies will be published. Finally, there is an online forum to allow those new to BCM to ask questions and receive free advice from experts.
BCAW is launched with a global video conference called “One Step Ahead: The BCM Advantage”. This conference will be broadcast over the Internet and viewers may put questions to the participants from 9 countries across 4 continents including case studies from Lockheed Martin Corporation and Statoil.
