London is the United Kingdom’s capital and largest city with a population of over 7.5 million. It is the heart of the state of bureaucracy and home of the British Monarchy.

Divided by the River Thames the city is home to many so-called ‘postcard’ or iconic targets, including the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. The city also has a complex transport and communications infrastructure plus a substantial transient and tourist population.

London is the UK’s prime economic site on par with New York with a rich history dating back to its founding in Roman times. It is a global capital of culture, fashion, finance, politics, and trade. In 2012 it hosted the greatest show on earth, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Branch Statement of Intent

Branch Statement of Intent

The London Branch of The Emergency Planning Society (EPS) has enormous potential to become a force for good in the UK resilience industry.

Being the capital city we have a clear opportunity to engage with all the UK resilience thought leaders and policy makers who are just within reaching distance if we are willing to reach out.

The strength of the EPS is that it is made up of volunteers, so in the main, people get involved because they genuinely care and want to see the industry improve to ultimately help make the UK become a much more safe and secure place to live.

We are a membership and we cannot forget that and as such members needs have to also be met so our focus must primarily meet those member needs to retain existing members and attract new members by providing real benefit.

We also need to consider how we can help professionalise the resilience industry, to become more effective in the UK.

Overall, all I want to see in 2017 is real positive deliverables created so that both members and the industry sit up and recognise that people in the society are genuinely working for the interests of them and the industry and so long as they reach out and support each other we will be able to do so much more and hopefully have some fun along the way.
